Service Area (Response District)

Our first-due response district includes the City Willoughby Hills as well as the Village of Waite Hill for which WHFD has provided contracted Fire/Rescue services since 1976.  This combined area consists of approximately 15 square miles with a population of just over 10,000 residents.

Our particular response district provides a very diverse set of challenges and responsibilities.  Examples include a wide array of residential construction types including 8 high rise apartment buildings (2,164 units, most in Lake County), approximately 60 lane-miles of interstate (I-90 and I-271), the scenic Chagrin River, various Cleveland and Lake Metroparks properties which includes the 1,700-acre North Chagrin Reservation, and portions of the Cuyahoga County Airport and its approach.  We are bordered by nine different communities involving two different counties and we work closely with our neighboring fire departments through various mutual aid and automatic mutual aid response agreements.
