Trash and Recycling

CITY-WIDE TRASH & RECYCLE PROGRAM

The City of Willoughby Hills implemented a City-Wide Rubbish and Recycling Program on
April 1, 2010.  As of that date, Republic Services, Inc., is the exclusive service provider for 
all residences in the city.

   

The program includes the following options:

 

1)     Weekly unlimited rubbish and household trash pickup with one 96 gallon cart

 

2)     Bi-weekly recycled material pickup with one 64 gallon container

 

3)     Weekly “heavy trash”* pickup is included with options 1 or 2 (above)

 

4)     A special rate for senior citizens for the above services

 

5)     Optional bag service with free bi-weekly pickup of recycled materials

 

6)      “Opt Out” provision for those who have a legal means to dispose of their trash
elsewhere (i.e. place of business, two residences, etc.)

 

* Maximum item weight: 75 pounds, per week.  Freon and doors must be removed
from refrigerators / appliances and properly tagged.

* Seniors must be 60 years of age and must submit copy of Ohio Golden Buckeye Card.

 

By contract, Republic Services will guarantee the rates for a five-year term with the only chance of an
increase being a “governmentally imposed regulation, increased tax, fee, surcharge or assessment.”

Recycle America!

NOTICE

Because the City's new trash program includes curbside recycling, 
most of the recycling bins located behind the Service Garage
were discontinued on April 1, 2010.


HOWEVER, the green-and-yellow Abitibi recycling bins will continue
to be available for paper recycling at City Hall and the Community Center and the proceeds will continue to go to the City's senior assistance program (WHISPER).

RECYCLE AND PROPERLY DISCARD 
YOUR COMPUTERS AND ELECTRONIC ITEMS

 

The City is now accepting computers, computer components, printers,
and various electronics for recycling and disposal.

Drop off items at the Service Department (behind City Hall)
MON – FRI from 7:30am to 3:00pm.

 

Acceptable items include:

Computers, Telephones, Inkjet Printers, Dot Matrix Printers, Cable Boxes, Cables, Wires, Extension Cords, Etc., Mainframe Equipment, Docking Stations, Monitors (all sizes), VCR’s, CD-Rom & Miscellaneous Circuit Boards, Cell Phones, Laser Printers, Scanners, UPS Battery Back-ups, Power Supplies, Telecommunications Equipment, Network Equipment, Keyboards & Mice, Flat Panel Displays, Digital Cameras, and DVD Players.

 Scrap Tire Collection ~ April 24, 2010

 

 

  • Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Lake County Fairgrounds. 
  • Up to 6 tires without rims will be accepted at no charge. Additional tires without rims, tires with rims, and oversized tires will be accepted at an additional charge per tire.

 

 Computer Collection ~ May 8, 2010

 

 

  • Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Lake County Fairgrounds in the Commercial Building.
  • Acceptable items: Home computer equipment including: CPU’s and monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, modems. Cell phones are also accepted.
  • NO televisions, microwave ovens, typewriters, DVD players, cameras or VCRs please.

 

Household Hazardous Waste Collection ~ June 5, 2010

 

 

  • Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Lake County Fairgrounds.
  • Acceptable items:Household Cleaners & Solvents: Thinners, Kerosene,Turpentine, Lighter Fluid, Strippers, Automotive Fluids: Used Motor Oil, Gasoline, Coolants, Antifreeze, Grease, Oil-based Paints, Varnish, Shellacs, Stains, Aerosols, Polyurethanes, Primers, Grout, Liquid/Solid: Pool, Lawn & Garden Chemicals,   Pesticides, Weed Killers, Spray Insecticides, Batteries - All Sizes (including lead acid & household), Fluorescent Bulbs, Photography, “Hobby” Chemicals, Mercury, Empty Propane Tanks, Roofing Tars, Drive Sealers. 
  • No Radioactive (Smoke alarms), Ammunition, Explosives, or Medical Waste.
