Fire Department


 

Staffing

The Willoughby Hills Fire Department is staffed 24-hours a day with a typical staffing level of six to ten firefighters on duty; minimum staffing is five firefighters.  All members of the department are cross-trained as both firefighters and EMS providers (paramedics) allowing for more efficient operations and well-rounded service delivery.

 

Training

Fire departments have been described as the “department of first resort and the department of last resort,” referring to the fact that no matter what the emergency or problem, people will call upon and rely upon the fire department to fix their problem and make things better.  Citizens expect the fire department to respond with well-trained professionals to tackle these issues and we are proud to serve a community that knows it can call upon us for any emergency.  Because of this very diverse and dynamic responsibility it is imperative that our firefighters train every day in order to continue providing safe and effective service to the community.  Below is a small list of examples of the types of certifications and training that Willoughby Hills Fire Department members hold and participate in:
